Qatar Committed to Protection of Children Rights, FM Advisor Says

New York, October 20 (QNA) – The State of Qatar expressed Saturday its keenness to carry out all the international agreements and conventions relating to the protection of children rights. Advisor at the Qatari Foreign Ministry Mesfir Faisal Al Shahwany stated Qatar’s position today while addressing the Social, Humanitarian and Cultural Third Committee at the 67th Session of the General Assembly. The committee was discussing the enhancement and protection of children’s rights. The Advisor who is also a member of the state of Qatar’s delegation participating in the said session, stressed that Qatar, under the wise leadership of HH the Emir Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, allocates the utmost interest in enhancing children rights and protecting them at all local , regional and international levels.
” Qatar’s national endeavours and its effective participation in these international efforts enhancing the children rights stem from principles involved in the state’s permanent constitution ”, said Faisal Al Shahwany. 
He also brought attention to the efforts the State of Qatar in terms of legislation, stating that the Qatari constitution provided special care to children and mothers alike. The constitution also stressed that the family was the cornerstone of the society.
He also noted that Qatar has been pursuing the enhancement of children rights by establishing a number of institutions dedicated to that purpose. The institutions were governmental and non-governmental including the Supreme Council for Family Affairs (SCFA) and the Qatari Institution for Child and Woman Protection which is tasked with the role of providing effective protection to women and children .These institutions were mainly concerned with implementing all the signed agreements on children rights.
Al Shahwany gave a special mention of Shafallah Center for Children with Special Needs which provides educational, medical, cultural and rehabilitation services to children with special needs. (QNA)
