Jordanian FM: Palestinian-Israeli conflict root cause of Mideast turmoil

RAMALLAH, March 24 (KUNA) — The Palestinian-Israeli conflict is the root cause of turmoil plaguing the Middle East, Jordanian Foreign Minister Nasser Judeh said on Thursday.
In a statement to the press after meeting with Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas in the city of Ramallah, Judeh said that his visit comes at a time of increased cooperation between Jordan and Palestine.
“We believe that a two-state solution, with an independent Palestine, is the only solution that would guarantee peace and security in the region,” Judeh said.
Speaking about a Jordanian initiative to erect cameras in the holy Al-Aqsa mosque, Judeh described it as an attempt to safeguard the sanctity of holy grounds.
Judeh also noted that his visit is a testament to Jordan’s solidarity with Palestine against unabated aggressions.
Moreover, chief Palestinian negotiator Saeb Erekat underscored Jordan’s attempts of bringing an end to the conflict, which he said “is the only way to ensure peace and security for all.” (end) ams.nam
