Riyadh – Indonesian President Joko Widodo stressed that military solutions alone cannot counter terrorism.

In an address to the Arab-Islamic-American Summit in Riyadh, Widodo said arms and military power will not be able to deal with terrorism alone, adding it is important to strike a balance in order to have an approach between soft and hard power. “We support to consider a religious cultural dimension in any approach.” He pointed out that his country has made great efforts in the fight against terrorism and is working to spread the message of peace. Indonesia is a victim of terrorist acts, he noted, recalling the Bali bombings in 2002 and 2005 and the Jakarta attack in January last year.

The Indonesian president stressed that the Arab-Islamic-American Summit seeks to convey the message of the Islamic world’s partnership with the United States, stressing that this summit is capable of strengthening cooperation in combating terrorism and conveying the message of peace to the world.

At the end of his speech, Widodo called for international cooperation in fighting terrorism and addressing the root causes of crises through achieving justice and strengthening economies. (QNA)
