The 69th Independence Day of Pakistan was celebrated at the Embassy of Pakistan, Abu Dhabi and Consulate General of Pakistan Dubai with national zeal and enthusiasm. A large number of UAE-based Pakistanis attended the ceremony, says a press release received here today from Abu Dhabi.

Ceremonies at both the venues began with recitation of verses from the Holy Qur’an. Ambassador of Pakistan Asif Durrani hoisted the National flag. Independence Day messages of President Pakistan Mamnoon Hussain and Prime Minister Muhammad Nawaz Sharif were read out.

In his address, Ambassador Durrani, while felicitating the Pakistanis on the auspicious occasion of Independence Day, recalled the great sacrifices rendered by the forefathers 69 years ago for a separate homeland. The Ambassador urged the community to stand united against extremist elements. In this regard, he lauded the role and sacrifices being rendered by the armed forces and law enforcement agencies of Pakistan. He said that the whole nation was united against dark forces of extremism.

Referring to the role of Pakistani community in UAE, Ambassador Durrani appreciated their contribution in the development of UAE. He particularly appreciated the UAE leadership’s special affiliation towards Pakistan and said that the leaders of the two countries were keen on further strengthening bilateral relations. Ambassador Durrani also lauded the role of the Pakistani community in strengthening the national economy and improving ties.

On the occasion, Ambassador announced online facility introduced by NADRA for Pakistanis living in the UAE to renew their ID cards online. Ambassador also urged those Pakistanis, who still have manual passports to acquire Machine Readable Passports at the earliest as they will not be able to travel on manual passports after November, 2015. Another ceremony in UAE was held at 0800 hours in the premises of Pakistan Consulate at Dubai.

Javed Jalil Khattak, Consul General hoisted the National Flag while the National Anthem was played. He read the messages of President and Prime Minister of Pakistan to audience. Extending warm felicitations on this occasion, Consul General Javed Jalil Khattak recounted the arduous struggle for achievement of independence under the visionary leadership of Quaid-e-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah.

He paid homage to the Founding Father of the Nation, his co-workers and the freedom fighters whose enormous sacrifices made it possible to realize the dream of an independent state for the Muslims of the sub-continent. Javed Khattak said that the country had come a long way despite enormous challenges, and was a proud member of the comity of nations and an active participant in contributing to international peace and security.

Paying tribute to the present leadership, he said that the Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif determined resolve had succeeded in combating the evil forces of extremism and terrorism within the country as well as external threats. Highlighting Pakistan’s achievements on the economic front, Consul General said that the impressive economic progress of Pakistan had been substantiated by the reports of various reputed international rating agencies and international financial institutions i.e. IMF, World Bank.

“Pursuance of a vibrant development agenda by the government, China-Pakistan Economic Corridor worth US$ 46 billion is another substantiation”, he added. He opined that the economic corridor project was destined to reshape not only Pakistan’s economy but would have a positive impact on the development of the entire region. He called for fostering unity for development of the country and inculcating a profound sense of solidarity.

Mr. Khattak commended the Pakistani community for their contributions in the progress and development of the United Arab Emirates. He recalled the excellent fraternal relations between Pakistan and the UAE and stated that the two countries have always stood by each other. He expressed his gratitude to the UAE leadership for their consistent support to the people of Pakistan. Cake-cutting ceremonies were held at both places to commemorate the Independence Day. Independence Day ceremonies concluded with prayers for progress, prosperity and solidarity of the country.
