GCAA aviation security experts take part in ICAO Panel

WAM ABU DHABI, 14th April, 2014 (WAM) — The General Civil Aviation Authority has concluded its participation in the 25th Aviation Security Panel which was held in the International Civil Aviation Organization in Montreal, Canada.

The U.A.E.’s delegation was headed by Hamad Salim Al Muhairi, Assistant Director-General Aviation Security Affairs, GCAA, and included Capt. Parvez Mohammed Sayeed, Chief Security Inspector, Mohammad Obaid Al Tayer, Security Inspector and Tariq Almarzooqi, Security Inspector.

U.A.E. Ministry of Interior accompanied the delegation and was represented by Colonel Khamis Musbah Al Marar, Head of the Ports and Airports Security Department at the Abu Dhabi Police, Lt. Colonel Younes Abdelrahman Al Hajeri, Major Hussein BuHussein and Mr. Mohammed Al Hamili.

Saif Mohammed Al Suwaidi, Director-General, GCAA, said that GCAA’s participations in the 25th Aviation Security Panel reflects U.A.E. position as a firm supporter of ICAO and its leadership on the international aviation arena. “Our security experts worked closely with ICAO experts to advance the aviation security programs and reach the optimal security level in aviation,” he added.

Hamad Al Muhairi, head of delegation pointed out that a number of emerging issues in aviation security have been discussed during the meeting, notably, EU cargo security requirements (ACC3) as well as key amendments to Annex 17 “Security” which were suggested by the U.A.E. delegation.

He added that U.A.E. has been on the forefront of aviation security issues through introducing and implementing security regulation and procedures to enhance aviation security measures, in addition to security awareness programs within the local aviation industry in order to promote compliance to aviation security regulations.

The Aviation Security Panel also reviewed the results of the Universal Security Audit Program and the conclusions of the Panel’s study on Risk Key Indicators. The meeting was concluded by reviewing ICAO’s comprehensive strategy for aviation security and other related matters such as technology, training and emerging security risks.

ICAO’s Aviation Security Panel witnessed the awarding of Hamad Al Muhairi, Colonel Khamis Al Marar and Capt. Parvez Mohammed Sayeed for their valuable contribution and continuous participation in ICAO’s meetings and programs.
