French police foil terrorist plot near Paris

PARIS, March 24 (KUNA) — The French security services managed to abort a major terrorist operation at its advanced stages in Paris region on Thursday night, Interior Minister Bernard Cazeneuve announced.
A security campaign in the Argenteuil neighborhood, nearly 15 km. to the north of Paris, led to the arrest of the terror suspect, France 24 TV station quoted the minister as saying at a press conference.
Bomb squads were on site, defused the explosive device and arrested the man who is a French national, the minister said, noting that there were no links “at this stage” between the foiled plot and recent terrorist attacks in Paris or Brussels.
Cazeneuve added that this arrest was the fruit of a careful investigation that began several weeks ago, and close co-operation with European intelligence agencies. (end)
