Arab League Secretary General Discusses Libyan Conflict With Officials

Cairo, The Arab League Secretary General Dr. Ahmed Aboul Ghait held a consultative meeting in the league’s headquarters with special representative of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) Secretary-General Martin Kobler and African Union (AU) high representative for Libya Jakaya Kikwete. The meeting was held under Troika which was formed as part of the three organizations created for the Libyan issue and to coordinate the efforts to settle the Libyan conflict.

According to statement published by the league, the meeting aimed to continue efforts between all three organizations to encourage a political dialogue between the Libyan parties, and urge it to reach solutions that allow the political process completion in accordance with the political agreement signed in the Libyan Skhirat in December 2015.

The statement added that the meeting witnessed an exchange of views regarding the next steps that the organizations may take to support the efforts of reconciliation through the formulating a joint plan of action to help the Libyan parties discuss the obstacles to complete the political process and encourage them to commit to it.

The officials also agreed on the importance of developing an international and regional approach to support Libya and its legitimate institutions to overcome safety, political and economic obstacles.
