Western Region Development Council issues first report on sustainability

WAM ABU DHABI, 5th October, 2013 (WAM)–The Western Region Development Council (WRDC), has recently announced the issuance of its first sustainability report for 2011 and 2012.

The report highlights the Council’s extensive efforts in achieving sustainable development in Al Gharbia, in addition to planned future initiatives related to the environment, economy, infrastructure and education.

On this momentous occasion, Mohamed Hamad bin Azzan Al Mazrouei, acting Undersecretary of the Ruler’s Representative Court in the Western Region and Director General of the WRDC said: “We endeavor to achieve and help realise the plans outlined in Plan Abu Dhabi 2030 and Plan Al Gharbia 2030, for the development of the region’s various sectors that are set by our wise leadership”.

He reiterated the fact that the WDRC strives to work closely with all partners from both public and private sectors, in an aim to achieve the Council’s strategic objectives that includes sustainable development achieved through the adherence to the highest standards.

Al Mazrouei added that the Council issued the first sustainable report to provide a means of communication and interaction with its strategic partners and stakeholders in the Emirate of Abu Dhabi in general, and in Al Gharbia in particular. The sustainable report also helps shed light on the progress witnessed in the Western Region, as well as highlights the vital role played by the Council in this area.

The sustainability report will also incorporate the WDRC’s efforts in involving the community and encouraging them to adopt healthy practices and maintain a clean environment by organising beach and desert cleaning campaigns, planting mangrove trees and the promotion of safe driving by launching the traffic awareness campaign, among so many others.

It is worth mentioning that the sustainability report has been prepared in accordance with international standards and in cooperation with “The Abu Dhabi Sustainability Group”. The report is intended to generate awareness on sustainability and to contribute to expanding the scope of its application throughout the Emirate of Abu Dhabi.
