US brands Al-Qaeda in Indian Subcontinent as terrorist org.

WASHINGTON, June 30 (KUNA) — The US State Department on Thursday designated Al-Qaeda in the Indian Subcontinent as a Foreign Terrorist Organization and its leader, Asim Umar, as a Specially Designated Global Terrorist.
US nationals will not be allowed to engage in transactions with or provide material support to the group or Umar, whose property and interests in the US will be frozen, read a statement.
Al-Qaeda in the Indian Subcontinent was formed in September 2014, and is currently led by Umar, a former member of Harakat ul-Mujahidin, another US designated Foreign Terrorist Organization.
The group claimed responsibility for killing activists and writers in Bangladesh, including two Americans and several Bangladeshis, and a hijacking attempt of a Pakistani Navy frigate in 2014. (end) sd.ajs
