UAE rolls out ”Our hearts with the people of Syria” fund-raising telethon, preachers urge for donation

WAM ABU DHABI,19th December, 2013 (WAM) — The Our Hearts with the Syrians Campaign, a humanitarian initiative called for by President His Highness Sheikh Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan to supporting Syrian refugees who are facing the severe cold wave in Syria s neighbouring countries, got underway this afternoon on local TV channels.

The two-day fund-raising telethon, jointly sponsored by the Red Crescent Authority (RCA) and the National Media Council (NMC), took to air at 2:00 pm for six hours on Friday and then from 2:00 to 4:pm on Saturday.

The drive will contribute to securing the necessary needs in order to protect them from severe cold weather that hit the region recently and led to a severe shortage of necessary humanitarian equipments in addition to a deterioration of their living conditions.

Good-doers can donate either through collection centres at shopping malls across the emirates or through Short Message Service (SMS) via the national telecom operators Etisalat or du.

Preachers said on Friday Sermon today that the humanitarian initiative has opened up a new window for doing good deed, praying to Allah to reward Sheikh Khalifa for his philanthropic works.

”Syria has special place at the hearts of Muslims……. Prophet Mohammed (PBUH) visited it and supplicated to Allah to bless its people,” the Friday Sermon indicated.

The preachers said that the people of Syria were experiencing consecutive tragic humanitarian crises as the terrific calamities left millions of them homeless out of their homeland.

They described the ordeal of the Syria people as ”heartbreaking” and ”tears-flowing”.

They urged Muslims to respond to the appeal to relieve the Syrian people and extend their helping hand to the distressed Syrian people.
