UAE Armed Forces, NIMR Automotive sign contract worth over AED 3 billion for supply of Nimr 6X6 and 4X4 vehicles

WAM ABU DHABI, 13th November, 2013 (WAM) — The General Headquarters (GHQ) of the United Arab Emirates Armed Forces and NIMR Automotive, a member of Tawazun group, have signed a contract which provides for the supply of 6X6 and 4X4 Nimr vehicles, at a total value of more than AED 3 billion.

The GHQ said the decision to purchase Nimr vehicles emanated from its keen interest to keep abreast with the latest in global defence industries and to support national industrial capabilities.

Tawazun Chief Executive Officer, Saif Mohamed Al Hajeri, expressed gratitude to the GHQ for selecting Nimr vehicles and expressed determination to utilise all resources, capabilities, expertise and best practices to ensure timely delivery of the vehicles.

Nimr Automotive CEO, Dr. Fahad Saif Harhara, said the contract is timed with the company’s plans to open its new state-of-the-art facilities within Tawazun Industrial Park in Abu Dhabi to meet the huge demand for Nimr armoured vehicles.

In February, the GHQ announced in a statement its intention to purchase the 6X6 and 4X4 multi-variant vehicles manufactured by Nimr Automotive following successful extensive all-terrain tests for the vehicle in the U.A.E..

“The vehicle exceeded the GHQ’s required operational standards in terms of design, performance, mobility and others,” the statement said.
