Tunisian PM: Ben Guerdane attacks kill 55 people

TUNIS, March 8 (KUNA) — Tunisian Prime Minister Habib Essid said Tuesday that the death toll of attacks that hit Tunisia’s Ben Guerdane on the border with Libya on Monday rose up to 55 people, including 36 militants, 12 policemen and seven civilians.
He told a press conference that seven militants were arrested in the security operation at Ben Guerdane, noting that interrogations led to the obtainment of very important information.
Three arms caches were discovered and a truck loaded by sophisticated weapons were seized, the prime minister pointed out.
According to the preliminary investigations, the attacks against Ben Guerdane Monday were carried out by 50 militants, mostly Tunisians, Essid added.
Immediately following the attacks, Tunisian President Beji Caid Essebsi announced closure of borders with Libya and a night-time curfew (7:00 pm-5:00 am) in Ben Guerdane and Djerba. (end) ksj.mt
