WASHINGTON, March 27 (KUNA) — Tourists have descended on Washington DC to see the annual blooming of the cherry blossom trees along the tidal basin and major monuments.
The trees were a gift of friendship from Japan to the United States in 1912.
Since 1935, a 10-day festival has commemorated the occasion with musical performances, a kite-flying event and a parade. The appearance of the cherry blossoms traditionally marks the start of the spring season in the area. (end) ys.rk
