Syrian-Russian forces kill over 800 militants in Aleppo – officer

MOSCOW, Aug 1 (KUNA) — Syrian military forces, with the aid of Russian air forces, repelled an armed attack by militant groups in the outskirts of Aleppo, northern Syria, killing over 800 militants as a result, official media reported.
“Before the attack, suicide bombers blew up four infantry fighting vehicles rigged with explosives at the positions of the Syrian government troops. The attack was launched under the leadership of Al-Nusra Front,” General Sergei Rudskoi, Head of the main operational department of the Russian General Staff, stated to reporters, according to TASS news agency.
The attack was repelled by the Syrian army and militias with support of the Russian air force, Rudskoi said, adding that over 800 militants were killed during the fighting, and about 14 tanks, 10 infantry fighting vehicles, over 60 vehicles with mounted guns were destroyed.
Meanwhile, seven humanitarian corridors were opened in Aleppo to save and help civilians from daily risks and terrorists threats, and militants who want to surrender arms, he noted, adding that a separate corridor is also open in the city’s north towards the Castello highway for armed militants.
So far, around 82 militants have surrendered themselves and arms to the Syrian government forces in eastern Aleppo, Rudskoi said, reiterating his country’s full support of UN Special Envoy to Syria Staffan de Mistura’s proposals on organizing the humanitarian process in Aleppo. (end)
