Pakistan reaffirms full support for peace in Afghanistan

ISLAMABAD, March 2 (KUNA) — Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif on Wednesday reaffirmed his country’s full support for peace in Afghanistan.
During his brief stopover in Afghan capital city Kabul earlier today, Sharif held meetings with Afghan President, Ashraf Ghani and separately with US Military Leadership, including CJS General Joseph Dunford, CENTCOM General Lloyd Austin and Resolute Support Mission Commander General John Nicholson, Pakistani army said in a press release.
The discussions focused on regional security, border management and operation coordination of Shawal Operation to check terrorists trying to flee across border into Afghanistan, said the release. It added that the meetings reviewed positive outcome of reconciliation process being pursued through the ongoing Quadrilateral Coordination Group (QCG) framework.
The QCG consists of Afghanistan, Pakistan, United States and China and its main task is to facilitate direct negotiations between the Afghan government and the Taliban rebels. (end) sbk.hb
