ISLAMABAD, June 18 (KUNA) — The Commander Resolute Support (RS) Mission in Afghanistan, General John Nicholson called on Pakistan’s Chief of Army Staff (COAS), General Raheel Sharif at General Headquarters in eastern Rawalpindi city, said military on Saturday.
A statement by Pakistan military’s Inter Services Public Relations (ISPR) said, “During the meeting, regional security issues and matters of mutual interest including border management mechanism along Pak-Afghanistan border were discussed.” The meeting came on the day when the Torkham gate border crossing between Pakistan and Afghanistan was reopened on Saturday after nearly a week of deadly clashes between the two countries’ security forces that killed four people on the both sides of border.
The reopening of the Torkham border led to return of the military reinforcements that were sent to the border area in wake of rising tension at the border. Torkham is a vital trade link between Afghanistan and Pakistan where thousands of vehicles normally pass through the crossing point every week. (end) rk
