JEDDAH, Jan 29 (KUNA) — The 57-state Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) on Friday denounced the terrorist bombing that targeted Al-Redha Mosque in East Saudi Arabia claiming four lives, earlier today.
OIC Secretary General Iyad Madani, in a statement, lambasted “this terrorist action that revealed the perpetrators’ futility and recklessness and their tampering with principles of Islam,” wasting souls of innocent worshippers.
Madani expressed solace to families of the deceased and the Saudi Government, praised the Kingdom security personnel who prevented the two suicide attackers from venturing into the mosque, where worshippers were performing Friday prayers.
The Saudi security men stood in the way of the attackers, prompting one to set off explosives attached to his body and the other to open fire and engage them in a firefight.
The OIC, in principle, renounces all forms of terrorism and extremism that have become great hazards threatening all member states, as well as international peace and security, said the secretary general, who also called for coordinated international efforts to confront terrorism and violent radicalism, with all possible means.
Shortly earlier, Riyadh announced that the attack resulted in death of four people and injury of 18 others. (end) nh.rk
