MoI Urges Cooperation in Protecting Children

WAM ABU DHABI, 10th September, 2013 (WAM) — In a statement to mark the start of the new school year, the Higher Committee for Child Protection at the Ministry of Interior has urged cooperation in protecting children from dangers as per the directives of H.H. Lt. General Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior. These directives embody H.H. Sheikh Saif’s commitment to ensuring that the UAE is a haven for civilization and a role model in the region in terms of protecting and securing children.

Major-General Nasser Lakhrebani Al Nuaimi, Secretary-General of the Office of H.H. Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of the Interior and Chairman of the Higher Committee for Child Protection, stressed the importance of communication between schools and families in realising the objectives for security in educational systems. Major-General Al Nuaimi expressed his best wishes to the students on the occasion of the new school year, urging everyone to continue efforts to develop their endeavours aimed to protect and educate students.

He emphasised the media’s role in achieving effective cooperation and promoting awareness among society and children in particular, as they face various challenges and risks in the current information age.

Major-General Al Nuaimi also requested that those in charge of the Child Protection Centre at the Ministry of the Interior propose a set of awareness-raising programmes to coincide with the start of the new school year. He noted the importance of adopting smart and e-learning methods according to best practices, methods in line with the intelligent education initiative to create a new learning environment in schools, saying, “Our government believes that the new generations have the primary responsibility of achieving these aspirations. Our national responsibility is to prepare them for a new world that requires advanced skills, so they can be ready for it to benefit themselves and their community.” Major-General Al Nuaimi concluded by highlighting the need to strengthen work in all awareness-raising related fields in order to serve the coveted goals of child protection.

Lieutenant Colonel Faisal Al Shammari, Director of the Child Protection Centre at the Ministry of the Interior, stated that various child protection enablers, projects and initiatives will be launched next month within “GITEX” week. He also stressed the attention devoted by the Secretary-General and Chairman of the Higher Committee for Child Protection to the various child protection-related projects and initiatives.
