MAGNITUDE 6.1 EARTHQUAKE STRIKES SOUTHEASTERN PHILIPPINES

Manilla, – A 6.1 magnitude earthquake hit in the Pacific Ocean off the southeast coast of the Philippines on Monday, the U.S. Geological Survey said.

The quake struck 236 km southeast of General Santos on the southern island of Mindanao.

Although there were no immediate reports of damage, hundreds of residents of coastal areas fled to higher ground fearing a tsunami after a series of earthquakes on the island of Luzon on Saturday. (QNA)
