Kuwait's Al-Ansari wins gold in GCC golf tourney in Doha

DOHA, March 4 (KUNA) — Kuwait’s golfer Ali Al-Ansari won the first place in the 9th GCC Youth Golf Championship 2016, which kicked off on March 2nd and concluded Friday.
The Kuwaiti golfer scored 18 plus strokes over par to win the gold medal and the first place, while Qatari competitor came second with 27 plus strokes over par, and Bahrain’s golfer came third with 32 plus strokes over par.
Meanwhile, Kuwait’s junior team, consisting of Ali Al-Ansari and Ahmad Al-Bader, came in second place in the teams’ competitions by scoring 489 strokes, while the Qatari team won the first place by scoring 484 strokes, and Bahrain clinched to the third place by 490 strokes.
For his part, Mazen Al-Ansari, Head of the Kuwait Olympic Committee’s Golf Committee, expressed to KUNA his joy for Kuwait’s winning the under 18 year-old category championship for the first time.
Winning the single junior title and placing second in the teams category was well earned, Al-Ansari said, noting that Ali Al-Ansari won by nine strokes, which is a wide difference in the sport’s competitions.
He also expressed his pride that winning the championship title coincided with Kuwait’s national festivals as it hoisted the country’s flag high in Gulf sports arenas, wishing that this achievement motivates and inspires Kuwaiti youngsters to take up golf.
Al-Ansari also dedicated the win to the Minister of Information and Minister of State for Youth Affairs Sheikh Salman Sabah Salem Al-Humoud Al-Sabah whose constant support to Kuwaiti athletes in local and international participations, noting that Sheikh Salman has a personal interest in supporting Kuwaiti golf.
