DOHA, March 7 (KUNA) — Director General of the Public Authority for Disabled Affairs (PADA) Dr. Tareq Al-Shatti underlined Monday the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) member states’ eagerness to achieve full integration of people with special needs into society.
The GCC countries are seeking to benefit from the disabled’s potential and capacities in various domains to allow them to contribute to society development, Al-Shatti told KUNA on the sidelines of his participation in 2nd Doha International Conference on challenges facing people with dual disability; deaf and blind, which is organized by the Arab Union for the Blind (AUB). To achieve this goal, government and civil society organizations have been involved in a strategic partnership, he said.
He added that the GCC states have also signed the UN convention on the rights of people with disabilities in 2013.
Al-Shatti said that Kuwait has worked out a comprehensive strategy to integrate people with special needs into the society and help them enjoy decent lives. (end) nnd.ibi
