EU extend sanctions on 48 Tunisians for one year

BRUSSELS, Jan 28 (KUNA) — The EU Council of Ministers extended Thursday until January 31, 2017 a freeze on the assets of 48 persons deemed to be responsible for the misappropriation of state funds in Tunisia and those associated with them.
The sanctions were initially introduced on January 31, 2011, targeting former president Zine El Abidine Ben Ali, his wife and 46 other persons. They have been renewed annually, noted a Council statement.
The decision will be published in the Official Journal of the EU on Friday. (end) nk.hb
