TOKYO, June 7 (KUNA) — Chinese President Xi Jinping on Tuesday called on his country and the US to promote the healthy and stable development of ties through increased exchanges and cooperation, state-run Xinhua News Agency reported.
Xi made the remarks in Beijing at his meeting with US Secretary of State John Kerry and Treasury Secretary Jacob Lew, who attended the two-day China-US Strategic and Economic Dialogues and the China-US High-Level Consultation on People-to-People Exchange, both wrapped up on Tuesday. “The development of bilateral ties over the following three years indicates that the path is in line with the fundamental interests of the two peoples and the world,” Xi was quoted as saying.
The president called on both sides to focus on cooperation, manage their differences properly and promote the healthy and stable development of China-US relations.
On macro-economic policies, Xi suggested the two countries strengthen policy coordination, strive for more positive outcomes at the Group of 20 (G-20) Hangzhou summit due Sept. 4-5, and inject new impetus into the world economy. “Both countries should make the most of cooperation potential in the areas of trade and investment, clean energy, and environmental protection,” he said, adding that they also need to strengthen communication and coordination on major global and regional issues.
Referring to divergence, Xi said the two countries should respect each other’s core interests and major concerns, and settle problems through dialogue and consultation. Kerry and Lew said the US would like to work with China to ensure the G-20 summit is a success, adding that US President Barack Obama welcomes a stable and prosperous China, according to the report. Effective cooperation between the two nations on major issues such as climate change indicated the significance of the US-China relationship, they said. Kerry and Lew also noted that the US and China have extensive cooperation potential, and could solve differences properly. (end) mk.rk
