Cabinet deplores Istanbul bombing

KUWAIT, March 21 (KUNA) — The cabinet on Monday condemned a recent suicide explosion that targeted a shopping mall in Turkey’s Istanbul City and left scores of people dead or injured, billing it as a “terrorist act”.
Five people were killed and at least 38 others wounded in a suicide attack that took place in central Istanbul on Saturday.
The cabinet denounced in a statement issued following its routine weekly meeting such terrorist acts that violate all international conventions and human values and norms, and prayed to Allah the Almighty to bless the victims’ souls with mercy and those injured swift recovery.
At the onset of the meeting, the cabinet was apprised of a letter sent to His Highness the Amir Sheikh Sabah Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah by Swiss President Johann Schneider-Ammann on the occasion of the 50th anniversary of forging diplomatic relations between Kuwait and Switzerland.
In his letter, the Swiss president hailed historical relations between both nations and accepted an invitation from His Highness the Amir to former Swiss president Simonetta Sommaruga to visit Kuwait.
The cabinet was also briefed on a letter sent to His Highness the Amir from Ukrainian Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk on existing ties between both friendly countries and ways of developing them in various fields.
The cabinet was then informed about the outcomes of a recent visit to Kuwait by Yemeni President Abd Rabbo Mansour Hadi and his talks with His Highness the Amir, which had focused on the latest political and military developments in Yemen and bilateral cooperation in all domains.
Afterwards, the cabinet listened to a presentation by Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Sheikh Mohammad Khaled Al-Hamad Al-Sabah on the outcomes of his recent visits to Saudi Arabia, Bahrain, Qatar and Oman, during which he delivered letters from His Highness the Amir to their leaders on Gulf unity, cooperation, regional peace and stability and the latest regional and international developments.
In light of Law 2/2016 regarding the anti-corruption authority, the cabinet approved a draft decree appointing the body’s chairman and deputy chairman, and referred it to His Highness the Amir.
The cabinet also approved two draft decrees pertinent to an agreement between Kuwait and New Zealand on air services and a memo of understanding between Kuwait and Spain on economic cooperation.
Furthermore, the cabinet appreciated Minister of Social Affairs and Minister of State for Planning and Development Hind Al-Sabeeh’s reply to the recent parliamentary grilling and commended the MPs’ understanding and responsibility during the discussions. (end) mt
