Asian Handball Club Championship Kicks Off in Doha

Doha, November 02 (QNA) – The 15th Asian Handball Club Championship 2012 get underway at Al Gharaffa SC Indoor Hall on Friday with the participation of 13 Asian clubs..
 The opening ceremony began with playing the national anthem of the State of Qatar followed by a variety of art shows and martial music.
    Prior to the official opening ceremony, the first two matches played were Thamen Al-Hejaj (Iran) and Al-Ahli (Bahrain), and Kuwait SC of Kuwait and Al-Sadd of Lebanon.
    HE Chief of Staff of Qatar Armed Forces Major General Hamad bin Ali Al Attiyah, chairman of the organizing committee of the tournament, kicked of the championship’s opening ceremony which was attended by HE Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al Thani, HE the Minister of State for Interior Affairs Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser Al Thani, HE Vice President of Qatar Olympic Committee Sheikh Saud bin Ali Al Thani, and HE Secretary General of Qatar Olympic Committee Sheikh Saoud bin Abdurrahman Al Thani and Ahmed Al Shaabi, President of the Qatar Handball Association and vice chairman of the organizing committee of the tournament, among others.
 The two-week long championships will feature the participation of 13 Asian clubs, they are distributed into three groups. Qatar’s representative, Al-Jaish SC is pooled in group A beside Al-Ahli (UAE), Kuwait SC of Kuwait and Al-Sadd of Lebanon. Qatar s second representative, Al-Rayyan SC is distributed in group B alongside Al-Jazeerah (UAE) , Al-Noor (KSA), Muscat of Oman, as group C includes defending champions, Mudhar (KSA), Thamen Al-Hejaj (Iran) , Al-Arabi (Kuwait), Al-Ahli (Bahrain) and Jiangsu of China.
 The Asian Handball Club League Championship is the official competition for men’s handball clubs of Asia, and takes place every year. In addition to crowning the Asian champions, the tournament also serves as a qualifying tournament for the Super Globe. (QNA)
