Cairo, – The 12th session of the Arab ministerial council of electricity will be held at the Arab League General Secretariat on Thursday. The session will discuss the activation of the Arab Electricity Grids Interconnection Projects and the establishment of the common Arab electricity market.

The preparatory meetings of the Arab ministerial council of electricity are set to begin on Monday with two meetings: the first at the expert level, and the second for the executive office at the ministerial level.

Representatives of the Arab Union of Electricity, the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for West Asia (ESCWA), the Arab Electricity Regulators Forum and a number of joint Arab action institutions such as the Arab Atomic Energy Organization and the Organization of Arab Petroleum Exporting Countries (OAPEC) are participating in the meetings as observers.

This year’s session is scheduled to witness the signing of a memorandum of understanding for the establishment of a common Arab electricity market, which was approved by the Council of the Arab League on 8 September 2016. (QNA)
