QATAR’S MINISTRY OF INTERIOR KEEN ON ENHANCING TIES WITH EXPAT COMMUNITIES

The Ministry of Interior (MoI), is keen on enhancing ties with the expatriate communities in Qatar and the community Eid celebrations are part of that exercise, Director of Public Relations at MoI, Brigadier Abdullah Khalifa al Muftah, said.

Brigadier Muftah remarked,”We organise such events, in order to be in constant touch with the different expatriate communities in Qatar and to join them in their celebrations. Besides, MoI’s departments are engaged in raising awareness of expatriate communities of their rights and responsibilities, through holding lectures and seminars throughout the year. We also hold events to expose the expats to Qatari culture, to create social harmony,” he added.

Conveying his greeting to the expatriate communities on the occasion of Eid Al Adha, the MoI official mentioned the valuable contribution of expatriate communities in Qatar’s national festivals, adding, “We also involve community schools in our National Day festival.”

The Al Wakra Sports Club Stadium witnessed a spectacular event by the Pakistani community, which was attended by thousands of people on the first and second day of Eid.

On this occasion, Jenan Bangesh, the Pakistani community representative in Qatar, said, such events are unique as these reflect the deep connection between the MoI and the expatriates. “Such celebrations rarely take place elsewhere and therefore, I would like to take the opportunity to thank MoI on behalf of 120,000 Pakistanis in Qatar for their kind gesture.”

Abdulbasit Khan, another Pakistani spectator, who also contributed to the organising of the programme, said, though he has been in the region for the last many years, it was only in Qatar that he saw a government so caring towards the expatriates.

It is worth mentioning here that this year, the Ministry of Administrative Development, Labour and Social Affairs (MoADLSA) joined MoI for the first time during Eid Al Adha celebrations, to deliver awareness programmes on workers’ rights for expatriate communities.

Khaled al Ghanim, director of International Labours Department at MoADLSA, said, “We appreciate all the efforts of MoI and we are conducting several programmes this Eid to educate workers on the Wage Protection System (WPS), labour rights and occupational safety
