Doha: Al-Sharq newspaper emphasized that HH the Amir Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al-Thani's participation in the G20 Summit in South Africa marks a significant step towards Qatar's involvement in addressing global economic challenges, aligning with the aspirations for solidarity, equality, and sustainability as affirmed by His Highness.
According to Qatar News Agency, the discussions at the Summit included addressing the issue of debt that affects developing and least developed countries. Qatar's proactive stance was exemplified by its agreements with the International Monetary Fund: the Poverty Reduction and Growth Trust (PRGT) and the Resilience and Sustainability Trust (RST). The PRGT agreement involves Qatar providing a loan from its Special Drawing Rights (SDR) account, while the RST agreement entails subscription packages comprising loans, deposits, and reserves at fixed rates.
The initiative by HH the Amir to donate $100 million to aid small island developing states and least developed countries in combating climate change and environmental challenges was also highlighted by Al-Sharq.
