Qatar’s Newspapers Criticize Israeli Actions and Highlight Domestic Transport Innovations

Doha: In a series of editorials, leading Qatari newspapers have strongly criticized the Israeli government's recent military actions in the region, particularly the airstrikes on the Abu al-Duhur military airport in Syria's Idlib province. Al-Sharq newspaper highlighted the continuation of Israel's policies, which it claims have led to increased escalation, violence, and instability in the region. The paper emphasized the Ministry of Foreign Affairs' condemnation of the airstrikes, warning that the lack of accountability is encouraging further violations and threatening regional peace and stability.

According to Qatar News Agency, the editorial from Al-Sharq stressed the importance of holding Israel accountable for its actions and ensuring that international law is upheld to prevent further escalation. The editorial concluded that the only path to a just and sustainable peace is through accountability and respect for sovereignty.

In a similar vein, Al-Raya newspaper asserted that Israel's actions in Gaza, the West Bank, Lebanon, and Syria are unjustified and part of a broader expansionist strategy. It described the Israeli bombing in Syria as opportunistic and aimed at imposing new realities on the ground, which violates Syria's sovereignty and international law. Al-Raya echoed Qatar's condemnation of these actions and warned of the risks of continued instability in the region.

On the domestic front, the Peninsula newspaper focused on Qatar's significant advancements in its transport sector. The editorial, titled "Towards Smarter Future," highlighted the country's commitment to transitioning to electric mobility and integrating advanced technologies such as autonomous vehicles. It noted that Qatar aims to achieve a fully electric public bus fleet by 2030 and has already made strides in testing autonomous transport solutions, including electric robotaxis.

The Peninsula concluded by emphasizing the country's forward-looking Transportation Master Plan 2050, which aims to create a smarter, more sustainable, and technology-driven mobility ecosystem. This shift reflects Qatar's broader efforts to meet future transportation needs while supporting urban development and environmental sustainability.
