Gaza: The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) has warned that the humanitarian situation in the Gaza Strip remains catastrophic despite the ceasefire. Israel denies access to UNRWA's international personnel in the enclave and restricts the delivery of aid, resulting in nearly 6,000 aid trucks piling up at the crossings, the agency caveated in a statement on Monday.
According to Qatar News Agency, the statement further warned that over 90 percent of Gazans are fully reliant on relief, with many receiving no more than one meal every 24 hours. It added that roughly 170 trucks enter the Strip daily, far below the threshold required to meet basic needs.
Currently, UNRWA operates 100 shelter centers housing over 80,000 displaced people and continues to provide education services remotely to approximately 300,000 students, while serving 50,000 in person amid harsh conditions and overwhelming mental pressures. The agency highlighted that roughly 44,000 children in the Gaza enclave receive education under difficult conditions in 330 interim education spaces spread across 59 shelter centers.
In addition, clinics see 15,000 patients daily through seven centers and 35 mobile medical clinics, amid a surge in malnutrition rates reaching 90 percent. Notably, UNRWA has lost 380 workers since the start of the war, while 90 percent of its facilities - out of 300 buildings - have been damaged due to Israeli shelling, causing a sharp decline in its operational capacity.
