Doha: Sudan's Foreign Minister Mohieldin Salem has called on the international community to support efforts to restore peace and stability in the country, saying Khartoum is closely following regional and global initiatives aimed at ending the conflict.
According to Qatar News Agency, Salem, speaking at a press conference in Port Sudan, emphasized that Sudan has historically transitioned from conflict to peace through its own volition and insisted that no external party should impose solutions. He stressed that negotiations need to occur at the negotiation table, stating clearly that Sudan would reject any proposal not aligning with its national interests.
Salem criticized the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), accusing them of committing severe atrocities in El Fasher and failing to adhere to commitments agreed upon during the Jeddah talks. He expressed deep concern over the ongoing violence and its detrimental effect on civilians.
These remarks follow comments from US Special Envoy to Africa, Mike Hammer, who stated that both conflicting parties had turned down a proposed ceasefire plan. Hammer urged them to accept Washington's proposal unconditionally, highlighting the urgency for a resolution.
