Doha: The State of Qatar took part in the 37th GCC meeting of the Agricultural Cooperation and Food Security Committee, which convened in Kuwait. The Qatari delegation was led by HE Minister of Municipality Abdullah bin Hamad bin Abdullah Al Attiyah.
According to Qatar News Agency, the meeting covered various significant topics such as the Gulf Food Security Strategy and the Plant Genetic Resources Bank. The ministers also examined the International Consultative Group on Agricultural Research (CIGAR) program.
Additionally, the meeting addressed a consultancy services project aimed at studying and evaluating modern technologies and artificial intelligence in farm management and productivity enhancement. This initiative is being implemented in collaboration with the International Center for Agricultural Research in the Dry Areas (ICARDA).
Further discussions involved amending the lists of prohibited and restricted pesticides attached to the Pesticides Law, approving amendments to the Pesticides Law, and deliberating the executive regulations of the Law on Fertilizers and Agricultural Soil Amendments.
Participants also reviewed numerous joint Gulf legislations and regulations. These included the adoption of the Law (System) of Preventive Measures against Infectious and Epidemic Animal Diseases, the adoption of the Executive Regulations of the Law (System) of the Practice of Veterinary Medicine, and the amendment of the Executive Regulations of the Veterinary Quarantine Law. Moreover, the adoption of the Executive Regulations of the Law (System) of Veterinary Preparations and the discussion of the Unified Law (System) for the Protection, Development and Exploitation of Living Aquatic Resources in the GCC countries were on the agenda. The meeting also followed up on the implementation of decisions from the 34th meeting of the Committee on Agricultural Cooperation and Food Security.
