Japan’s Nikkei Records Three-Week Low Due to Technology Stock Sell-Off

Japan: Japan's Nikkei index recorded its biggest decline in three weeks at Wednesday's close, following sharp selling in technology company shares on Wall Street overnight. The Nikkei index fell 3.16 percent to close at 65,326.42 points, marking its most significant drop since July 27. The broader Topix index also experienced a substantial fall, dropping 3.09 percent to close at 4,012.31 points.

According to Qatar News Agency, Furukawa Electric shares faced the most considerable decline, plummeting 13.69 percent. It was closely followed by Kioxia Holdings, which saw a 12.60 percent drop. Pan Pacific International, the operator of the Don Quijote chain of stores, experienced an 11.08 percent decrease, while SoftBank Group, a key investor in artificial intelligence, fell 6.47 percent.

Conversely, some companies managed to buck the downward trend. Online retail company Mercari recorded the largest gain among the shares listed on the Nikkei index, rising 6.19 percent. Shift followed with an increase of 3.43 percent, and M3 gained 2.18 percent.
