Firefighters in Amman put out a fire that broke out Thursday at a sponge factory in Al Zohour area in East Amman, according to the Public Security Directorate (PSD). In a statement, the PSD said the firefighters made "great and strenuous" efforts in extinguishing the fire, especially with the high temperature affecting the country. Dozens of operational civil defence vehicles, a large number of firefighters, police and gendarmerie forces and water tanks participated in the operations. Extinguishing the fire took several hours due to the nature of the burning materials, which resulted in heavy smoke. No injuries were reported as a result of the fire. An investigation was opened to find out the cause of the fire.
