Doha: Qatar has emerged as a leading inspiration in the organization and security of major international events, as highlighted in a recent editorial by Al-Watan newspaper. The publication emphasized Qatar's achievements, particularly in hosting the FIFA World Cup Qatar 2022, which showcased the nation's robust security, legislative, organizational, and service frameworks. These frameworks have positioned Qatar as a model for other countries, especially within the Arab world, that are preparing to host significant events.
According to Qatar News Agency, the editorial further elaborated on a recent meeting chaired by HE Minister of Interior, Sheikh Khalifa bin Hamad bin Khalifa Al-Thani, who also serves as the Commander of the Internal Security Force "Lekhwiya" and Chairman of the Security Committee. During the meeting, which was the second of the Security Committee of the Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy (SC), discussions focused on enhancing the security strategies for various events hosted by Qatar.
The meeting also involved reviewing preparations for upcoming international sporting events such as the Formula 1 Qatar Airways Qatar Grand Prix 2025, the FIFA Arab Cup Qatar 2025, and the FIFA Intercontinental Cup. Additionally, Qatar's participation in securing the Winter Olympic Games 2026 in Italy and the FIFA World Cup 2026 in the USA was discussed. The Committee also assessed updates related to Qatar's bid for the 2036 Olympic Games, ensuring comprehensive coordination and readiness among all relevant entities.
In another development reported by The Peninsula, Qatar's mediation efforts have received commendation from the United Nations Security Council (UNSC) following the signing of the Doha Framework for Peace between the Government of the Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC) and the Congo River Alliance (M23 Movement) in Doha. The UNSC acknowledged Qatar's vital role in facilitating the agreement, which is seen as a significant step towards stability and reconciliation in the DRC.
The Peninsula also highlighted Qatar's global reputation as a neutral and reliable mediator, attributing it to the country's constitutional commitment to resolving international disputes peacefully. Since 2004, Qatar has been involved in various mediation efforts, successfully brokering ceasefires, restoring diplomatic relations, and facilitating peace agreements on both regional and global levels.
Additionally, Al-Arab daily reported on the celebration of Oman's National Day in Doha, organized by the Embassy of Oman.
