Qatar’s Commitment to Empowering Persons with Disabilities Highlighted in Newspaper Editorials

Doha: Qatari newspapers highlighted in their editorials on Wednesday the significant attention that the State of Qatar gives to persons with disabilities by continuously supporting their empowerment, integration, and active participation in society. The newspapers also shed light on the development of Qatar-Africa relations and their sustained growth across various fields.

According to Qatar News Agency, Al-Raya emphasized Qatar's unwavering commitment to promoting the rights of persons with disabilities, describing them as an embodiment of hope and determination. Qatar has translated this commitment into practice through comprehensive national policies addressing the needs and rights of persons with disabilities, as reflected in the Permanent Constitution, the Qatar National Vision 2030, and the country's national development strategies.

From this perspective, it added, HE Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman bin Jassim Al-Thani attended the graduation ceremony of the 2026 batch of members of the Shafallah Center for Persons with Disabilities, where he honored 36 graduates. Al-Raya expressed pride in the graduates, praising their determination to overcome challenges and become a source of pride for their families, teachers, and the nation. It emphasized their role as active contributors to Qatar's development process.

The newspaper further highlighted the continued efforts of Shafallah Center to enhance economic empowerment opportunities for persons with disabilities by preparing them for the labor market. A number of its graduates have secured positions in both public and private sector institutions, helping to strengthen their professional stability and active participation in diverse work environments. HE Prime Minister's patronage of the graduation ceremony reflects the importance Qatar places on supporting persons with disabilities and advancing their path toward empowerment and meaningful participation in society, the paper highlights.

Qatar, it noted, has worked to provide specialized educational, rehabilitation, therapeutic, and psychological services for persons with disabilities that are comparable to, or rival, those offered by leading international centers. These services range from academic preparation and vocational training to sports and artistic activities, with a strong focus on developing personal and life skills that promote independence and social inclusion.

Meanwhile, Al-Watan stressed that HE Prime Minister's attendance at the Shafallah Center graduation ceremony and his honoring of the graduates underscore Qatar's strong commitment to supporting persons with disabilities and ensuring their empowerment and active participation in society, in line with the principles of inclusion, equality, and equal opportunity. The newspaper said that Qatar's support for persons with disabilities is consistent with Qatar National Vision 2030, which emphasizes equality and justice for all segments of society, as well as Law No. 22 of 2025 on Persons with Disabilities, which reinforces the principles of inclusion, equal opportunities, independence, and active participation in society.

The newspaper added that, in pursuit of this goal, Qatar pays greater attention to supporting families in fulfilling their role in promoting the rights of persons with disabilities, as the family remains a vital pillar where they can enjoy their rights with dignity and independence and participate effectively in all aspects of life. Al-Watan concluded by stating that the programs and initiatives of the Shafallah Center contribute to translating these national directions into enhancing their opportunities for integration into society and the labor market, and providing them with all the necessary privileges for their optimal care.
