Samarkand: The State of Qatar, through its Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, took part in the opening session of the 20th Meeting of the Parties to the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES). This event commenced in Samarkand, Uzbekistan, with significant participation from global representatives and organizations dedicated to wildlife protection.

According to Qatar News Agency, the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change was represented by Dr. Ibrahim Abdul Latif Al Muslemani, the Assistant Undersecretary for Protection and Nature Reserves Affairs. Dr. Al Muslemani contributed to discussions on the first day, focusing on the mechanisms for compliance with the convention's provisions, the regulation of international trade in species listed in its appendices, and enhancing cooperation among member states.

Qatar's participation underscores its commitment to implementing CITES provisions and boosting efforts to combat illegal wildlife trade. This involves developing national systems and enhancing the effectiveness of inspection and monitoring teams at border crossings.
