Doha: HE Sheikh Joaan bin Hamad Al-Thani, President of the Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) and President of the Qatar Olympic Committee, highlighted the significance of the upcoming Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Asian Games. He emphasized that Asia, as the largest continent in the international Olympic movement, exemplifies unity and strength through these games. According to Qatar News Agency, in his remarks marking the one-month countdown to the Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Asian Games, scheduled to take place in Japan next month, His Excellency stated that the event embodies a shared vision of uniting the continent. Japan, known for its history of hosting major sporting events, is expected to set a benchmark for future editions, empowering youth and inspiring the next generation of Asian sports. The Olympic Council of Asia (OCA) and the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games Organising Committee are celebrating the one-month mark until Japan hosts Asia's largest multi-sport event from September 19 to October 4, 2026. The games will bring toge ther over 11,000 athletes and 6,000 officials from 45 countries, featuring 43 sports and 71 disciplines. A total of 1,407 medals will be awarded across 469 events, marking a historic celebration of Asian sports. This event marks the third time Japan has hosted the Asian Games, following the Tokyo 1958 and Hiroshima 1994 editions. Aichi-Nagoya 2026 stands as Asia's flagship multi-sport festival, promoting unity under the official motto, "Imagine One Asia." The event will be supported by 10,200 volunteers and covered by 5,300 accredited media representatives, with a global audience tuning in. OCA Director General, Husain Al-Musallam, expressed gratitude towards Japan for preparing to host Asia's athletes. He emphasized that the games will create memories and forge lifelong friendships through sport, promoting peace and a lasting legacy across the continent. The Aichi-Nagoya 2026 Asian Games will commence with an Opening Ceremony on September 19 and conclude with a Closing Ceremony on October 4. As the final countdown begins, the nations of Asia stand united, ready for sixteen days of world-class sporting competition.
