MoPH Launches Food Establishments Guide for Food Recall Requirements

Doha: The Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) has introduced the Food Establishments Guide for Food Recall Requirements, a national reference designed to standardize and improve procedures for recalling unsafe or non-compliant food products from the local market. This initiative aims to safeguard consumer health and minimize food-related risks.

According to Qatar News Agency, the guide is part of MoPH's ongoing efforts to enhance the food safety system in Qatar, aligning with globally recognized best practices and standards. It delineates the responsibilities of stakeholders in the food chain, including importers, manufacturers, distributors, and retailers. The guide also establishes mechanisms for traceability, product recovery, communication, and food incident management, ensuring a swift response and efficient management of potential food safety risks.

The guide stresses the importance of food establishments implementing effective recall and recovery plans, robust traceability systems, and regular reviews and testing to verify the readiness and effectiveness of these plans, in accordance with international food safety best practices.

The guide's launch was announced at the World Food Safety Day 2026 event, organized by MoPH at the Itqan Clinical Simulation and Innovation Center at Hamad Bin Khalifa Medical City. The theme for the event was "From Burden to Solutions: Safe Food Everywhere," and it was attended by representatives from both the public and private sectors.

Wessan Abdullah Al Baker, Director of the Food Safety Department at MoPH, emphasized that the event demonstrates MoPH's commitment to fostering a culture of prevention, enhancing food safety awareness, and supporting partnerships with stakeholders. These efforts aim to build a more efficient and sustainable food system, ensuring high levels of community health protection.

The event included awareness and discussion sessions on challenges related to foodborne diseases and prevention strategies, along with the latest practices in food control and safety. A practical case study from the private sector on a food product recall was presented to promote knowledge exchange and awareness of preventive and corrective measures.

Additionally, the Food Safety Department at MoPH recognized outstanding food establishments under the Food Establishments Classification Program, honoring those that achieved significant improvements in classification ratings and compliance with health requirements, acknowledging their contributions to supporting food quality and safety standards.
