Inflation Rises to 2.21% in First Ten Months of 2023

Amman, Jordan – The general consumer price index, or inflation, saw an increase of 2.21 percent in the first ten months of 2023, reaching 108.88 points, compared to 106.53 points during the same period in 2022.

According to Jordan News Agency, which released its monthly report on Sunday, the rise in inflation was influenced by significant increases in various commodity groups. The most notable increases were observed in fuel and lighting (7.85%), dairy products and eggs (6.24%), culture and entertainment (5.51%), furniture, carpets, and bedding (4.95%), and personal effects (4.58%). In October 2023 alone, inflation rose by 1.36 percent, reaching 109.78 points, against 108.31 points in the same month of the previous year. The monthly rise in October was largely attributed to increases in personal effects (7.71%), tobacco and cigarettes (5.17%), fruits and nuts (3.87%), rents (3.25%), and dairy and eggs (2.93%).
