DOHA — Al Sadd emerged victorious over Muaither with a 2-0 win in Week 7 of the 2023-2024 Expo Stars League. The match took place on Saturday at the Hamad Bin Khalifa Stadium of Al Ahli club.
According to a new release by Qatar News Agency, the win enabled Al Sadd, also known as The Wolves, to move to the top of the league table with 16 points, the same as Al Gharafa but with a superior goal difference. Muaither, on the other hand, remains with four points.
Akram Afif scored the opening goal for Al Sadd in the 42nd minute with a penalty, while substitute Hashem Ali secured the second goal in the 94th minute. Despite a strong resistance from Muaither throughout the game, they were unable to prevent Al Sadd from scoring.
Akram Afif was a key player for Al Sadd, drawing a foul from Muaither’s Ramon Arias that led to the penalty. Afif executed the penalty with precision, sending the ball into the bottom left corner of the net. Afif continued to make his presence felt in the game with several other near-miss opportunities, including a shot that hit the crossbar in the 49th minute.
Muaither had several chances to score as well, but were unable to capitalize. In the 17th minute, a powerful shot by Guy Mbenza was skillfully saved by Al Sadd’s goalkeeper Meshaal Barsham. Later, Jamal Hamed’s long-range shot missed to the right, and Denis Alibec was found offside on two separate occasions.
