Doha: The Ministry of Public Health (MoPH) has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the University of Doha for Science and Technology (UDST) to establish a framework for cooperation in research, education, and community services.
According to Qatar News Agency, the MoU was signed on behalf of MoPH by Director of the Non-Communicable Disease Prevention Programmes Department Sheikh Dr. Mohamed bin Hamad Al-Thani, and on behalf of UDST by its President, Dr. Salem bin Nasser Al Naemi. The agreement aims to enhance coordination and cooperation between MoPH and UDST in offering educational opportunities for students across the University's various colleges. It includes the development of postgraduate degree programmes, academic pathways, and practical training and teaching opportunities for students at MoPH and its affiliated institutions. It also supports students' health-related graduation projects and the implementation of continuing education programmes in multiple fields such as business administration, health sciences, engineering and technology, and computing and information technology.
Sheikh Dr. Mohamed bin Hamad Al-Thani emphasized the MoU as a pivotal step in strengthening the national partnership between the health sector and academic institutions. He highlighted that the collaboration provides a structured framework for cooperation in education, training, capacity-building, scientific research, and community service, all of which align with MoPH's priorities and contribute to national capability development. The partnership is expected to leverage the expertise and capabilities of both parties, offering high-quality opportunities for students and staff and enhancing applied research connected to national health needs and priorities. Dr. Mohamed also mentioned the anticipation of developing joint initiatives that promote community health and support the objectives of Qatar's health sector.
UDST President Dr. Salem bin Nasser Al Naemi expressed pride in the longstanding partnership with MoPH, which has emphasized education and training over the years. He pointed out that recent collaborations have included the Executive Master of Science in Health Administration and Master of Science in Midwifery programmes. Dr. Naemi highlighted the significance of the MoU in the context of the National Health Strategy 2024-2030 and its goals to improve healthcare quality and efficiency. The new agreement will enable USDT to support these priorities by preparing professionals who meet the health sector's needs, developing responsive academic and professional programmes, and bolstering applied research and innovation.
The MoU encompasses several crucial areas of cooperation, particularly concerning the programmes offered by the University. These include fields such as health administration, environmental health, medical radiography, nursing and midwifery, occupational health, safety and the environment, diabetes care and patient education, emergency medical care, pharmaceutical technology, and respiratory therapy, among others.
