US Presidential Elections: Polling Stations Close in Some Eastern US States.


Doha: Polls have closed in several eastern US states as the nation watches a tightly contested presidential election between Republican candidate Donald Trump and Democratic candidate Kamala Harris.

According to Qatar News Agency, this election sees participation from approximately 230 million eligible voters, though only about 160 million are registered. Many states offer same-day registration on Election Day, with North Dakota being unique in allowing residents to vote without prior registration. Already, over 80 million voters have exercised their right through mail-in or early in-person voting.

The United States, which spans six time zones, sees voting commence at 5 a.m. (10:00 GMT) on Tuesday and continue until 1 a.m. (06:00 GMT) on Wednesday, according to Eastern Time.

Aside from the presidential race, voters are also selecting 34 U.S. senators and all 435 members of the House of Representatives. Furthermore, gubernatorial elections are underway in 11 states and two territories, Puerto Rico and Amer
ican Samoa.

Earlier today, American voters began casting their ballots to choose the country’s 47th president, with Kamala Harris and Donald Trump as the main contenders.
