Deputy Special Envoy to Global Coalition to Defeat ISIS Ian McCary stressed that the State of Qatar plays a prominent role in counterterrorism and extremism regionally and globally.
In special remarks to Qatar News Agency , McCary said that the State of Qatar was one of the founders of the international coalition to defeat ISIS in 2014, and since then there has been strong strategic cooperation between the State of Qatar and members of the coalition, adding that Qatar is strongly present in all the coalition’s discussions and conferences to enhance stability in the region and eliminate ISIS and other armed organizations.
The Deputy Special Envoy to Global Coalition to Defeat ISIS and former Charge d’Affaires of the US Embassy in Qatar praised the State of Qatar’s efforts in countering terrorism finance and drying up its sources, pointing out that the coalition benefits significantly from the State of Qatar’s experience in that field, in addition to the existing continuous diplomatic consultations with Qatar to totally eradicate terrorism in the region.
He stressed that the State of Qatar makes immense efforts to promote peace and stability in the Middle East and plays a significant role as a mediator in many significant issues and files, given its significant international position in addition to its strong relations with many active parties regionally and globally.
Regarding the strategic relations between the State of Qatar and the United States, McCary expressed his optimism concerning the future of cooperation between the two countries, pointing out that when he was the Charge d’Affaires of the US Embassy in Qatar ten years ago, the strategic cooperation between the two countries was at a very high point and the cooperation relations greatly enhanced over the past few years. He stressed that cooperation relations will move towards greater strength in the future, based on the two countries sharing visions and goals, as Qatar and the United States are keen to enhance stability in the region and completely eliminate ISIS and other violent organizations.
In this context, he stressed that the coalition benefited from the consultations, ideas, and initiatives provided by the State of Qatar, the GCC countries, and other countries to eliminate ISIS and other violent organizations.
Regarding the situation in the areas that used to be under ISIS control, Ian McCary concluded his remarks to QNA by saying that the residents of the villages and areas that used to be under ISIS control suffered greatly due to the destruction of infrastructure, hospitals, and schools, but he stressed the keenness of the coalition countries, especially the State of Qatar, to implement programs to rebuild and rehabilitate those areas, which will lead to improving the security situation in the future.
