UN Warns of Escalating Violence in West Bank, Calls for Protection of Civilians

Doha: The United Nations warned today of escalating violence across the occupied West Bank, calling for the protection of civilians. The United Nations Deputy Special Coordinator for the Middle East Peace Process, Ramiz Alekperov, expressed grave concern over the continued civilian casualties throughout the West Bank.

According to Qatar News Agency, Alekperov emphasized that the escalation of violence over the past week has led to further Palestinian civilian casualties, displacement, property damage, and increased insecurity in affected communities. He reported that Palestinians continue to be killed and injured, and Israeli settler attacks on Palestinian communities, places of worship, and civilian infrastructure persist.

Alekperov stressed the necessity for the occupying forces to take immediate steps to prevent settler violence, protect Palestinian communities, and ensure accountability for those responsible for the attacks. He also addressed the situation in Gaza, noting that the challenge there has transcended the issue of humanitarian access, with funding now posing the greatest threat to food security in the Strip.

The United Nations highlighted the critical nature of humanitarian aid in Gaza, describing it as a lifeline under the current living conditions. Alekperov cautioned that the situation on the ground remains extremely fragile, underscoring the urgent need for international support and intervention to stabilize the region.
