The Turkish authorities announced the seizure of 16 illegal immigrants and the apprehension of 8 human traffickers in Balikesir state.

The gendarmerie teams received information indicating that 8 human smugglers were preparing to transport illegal immigrants from the Aywaliq region to the Greek island of Medelli, said the statement issued by the state, adding that the gendarmerie forces carried out a security operation that resulted in the arrest of 8 human smugglers and 16 illegal immigrants.

The statement pointed out that the operation also resulted in the seizure of narcotics and an unlicensed hunting rifle that were in the possession of the traffickers, while the migrants were referred to the deportation center. Meanwhile, the gendarmerie teams continue their operations against the human traffickers.
