WFP suspends operations in Sudan after killing of 3 staff

UN Saturday condemned the killing of three World Food Programme (WFP) staff during clashes in Sudan and that the Programme suspended operations in the embattled country. The Special Representative of the Secretary-General of the UN in Sudan, Volker Peretz, stated that the three staff members were killed in clashes that broke out in the Kabkabiya region, North Darfur, according to the UN News. WFP announced the suspension of its aid in Sudan following the killing of the three staff. Euronews reported that the programme director, Cindy McCain, stated, “We are forced to temporarily suspend our operations in Sudan while we review the security situation.”
