QNA Wins Prestigious FANA Quality Award for Digital Journalistic Skills Training Platform

Doha: The Qatar News Agency (QNA) has been honored with the Federation of Arab News Agencies (FANA)'s Quality Award 2024-2025 for its innovative project aimed at establishing a joint digital training hub for journalists from Arab news agencies.

According to Qatar News Agency, the initiative is designed to enhance the skills of journalists, improve their adaptability to the ever-changing media environment, foster integration among member agencies, and leverage technological advancements. FANA highlighted that since 2022, it has set aside a special award to recognize exceptional initiatives by its member news agencies, with the goal of supporting their development and diversifying their content in line with global media trends.

For the 2024-2025 award period, FANA reviewed two submissions: the QNA's project and the Saudi Press Agency (SPA)'s Saudi Photos Hub, which aims to support media work and broaden the reach of Arab media both regionally and internationally. Both QNA and SPA will be acknowledged for their contributions to enhancing Arab news agency media endeavors during the 52nd FANA General Assembly session, scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2026.

QNA's project, titled 'the digital platform for developing modern journalism skills,' involves creating a collaborative online platform to train journalists from member agencies in contemporary media skills. This initiative responds to the rapid changes in the media industry and the challenges presented by digital technologies.

The platform will provide specialized and regularly updated training in areas such as digital journalism, multimedia content production, cybersecurity for data protection, investigative journalism, and the use of artificial intelligence for information gathering, verification, and rapid data analysis.

The project's vision is to transform the platform into a regional hub for training media professionals, equipping them with the necessary tools for the digital age by combining journalistic professionalism with technological advancements. It aims to foster integration among member news agencies through unified training standards and expertise exchange, enhance information security for journalists and media institutions, and collectively benefit from technological advancements to maintain competitive and diverse news content.

The implementation will involve a closed electronic platform offering flexible training content through recorded courses and live broadcasts. The QNA Training Center has expressed its readiness to provide its training programs to Arab news agency journalists. The project will feature coaching by trainers and experts from member agencies and beyond, interactive workshops, real-world simulations, accredited certificates, and tools to assess participant performance and skill development.

The initiative is expected to cultivate a pool of media professionals capable of navigating technological and digital challenges, strengthen interaction and cooperation among FANA agencies through knowledge-sharing, and elevate the quality of media content produced by member agencies. Its competitive advantage lies in cost reduction by sharing human resources and training content, decreasing reliance on external training providers, localizing knowledge, and enhancing the exchange of media expertise among participating institutions.

The award highlights the significance of initiatives aimed at developing professional skills and strengthening Arab media collaboration. It also reflects FANA's recognition of the project's role in addressing the demands of the evolving digital media environment. This accolade adds to QNA's history of achievements, following its receipt of the FANA Award for Best Report in 2022 for the piece titled "Private Museums Enhance Cultural Vision, Community Awareness in Qatar."
