Qatar Highlights Commitment to Disability Rights at UN Conference

New york: The State of Qatar actively participated in the 19th session of the Conference of States Parties to the Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (CRPD), hosted at the United Nations headquarters in New York. The conference focused on the theme, "CRPD at 20 - Celebrating and consolidating achievements and shaping the next phase of implementation in a changing world."

According to Qatar News Agency, the delegation from Qatar was led by HE Undersecretary of the Ministry of Social Development and Family, Khalifa bin Issa Al Kubaisi. During the general debate, Al Kubaisi highlighted Qatar's national efforts and experiences in promoting the rights of persons with disabilities and ensuring their active participation in all areas of life. He emphasized that Qatar was among the first nations to ratify the CRPD, attributing this progress to a supportive environment and the guidance of the country's leadership.

Al Kubaisi announced that Qatar will host the Fourth Global Disability Summit in Doha in 2028, in collaboration with the International Disability Alliance. This event underscores Qatar's dedication to fostering inclusive societies and empowering individuals with disabilities, aligning with its international cooperation and partnership policies.

He also outlined significant strides made by Qatar, such as the Ministry of Social Development and Family's National Strategy 2025-2030, which aims to transition from care to empowerment and build an inclusive society. Additionally, Law No. 22 of 2025 on Persons with Disabilities was highlighted as a crucial advancement in protecting and realizing disability rights in Qatar.

Reflecting on past achievements, Al Kubaisi mentioned Qatar's hosting of the Second World Summit for Social Development last year, which highlighted global solidarity in promoting disability rights. He reiterated that empowering persons with disabilities is an investment in a fair and inclusive future, reaffirming Qatar's unwavering commitment to this cause.
