Qatar Post Innovates to Enhance Shipping Amid Global Supply Chain Challenges

Doha: In response to the global supply chain disruptions, Qatar Postal Services Company (Qatar Post) has successfully implemented innovative solutions to ensure business continuity and maintain service efficiency, while introducing alternative methods to enhance the speed, accuracy, and reliability of postal shipping operations.

According to Qatar News Agency, Qatar Post has taken several operational and logistical measures to adapt quickly to changes, leveraging its operational flexibility. The company has utilized its years of experience and modern technology to fill gaps in supply chains, allowing postal shipments to become a dependable option for transporting goods of all sizes, whether personal, industrial, or related to heavy equipment.

Hamad Mohammed Al Fahida, the Chief Operating Officer at Qatar Post, emphasized that the company's operations are primarily aviation-based, not dependent on seaports or the Strait of Hormuz. As such, Qatar Post swiftly activated alternative solutions to maintain service continuity across several Gulf countries, including Muscat, Riyadh, and Dubai, as air traffic resumed post-crisis.

Al Fahida highlighted the strategic use of Qatar Airways and Turkish Airlines, with shipments rerouted through alternative paths such as Muscat to Dubai and Turkiye to Kuwait, enhancing regional connectivity. Qatar Post has expanded its role to become a regional logistics hub, adept at handling transit shipments through receiving, delivery, or redirection, thereby serving beyond the local market in Qatar.

The COO confirmed Qatar Post's capability to transport shipments internationally with high efficiency, covering a wide range of goods, including high-value items like Royal Opera House Muscat's collections. The challenges have accelerated Qatar Post's land transport plans within GCC countries, increasing land trips to Kuwait from three per week to three per day, with streamlined customs clearance processes.

Al Fahida noted that land transport has bolstered e-commerce, with companies like Temu and Shein utilizing Qatar Post for distribution, complemented by last-mile and home delivery services. Future plans include Qatar Post becoming the main carrier for shipments from the UAE to Qatar until air operations resume full capacity.

He also mentioned that Qatar Post continues to operate routes with GCC countries under the Connected service, with some US shipments redirected via Saudi Arabia, and plans to increase the frequency of these flights. Land freight has been a cost-effective alternative to air freight, with Qatar Post managing over 6,000 shipments monthly, including customs clearance and home delivery services.

The COO emphasized that these solutions supported the local market and business continuity, creating new opportunities for attracting and re-exporting shipments. Qatar Post is redefining its global image by expanding integrated logistical services, ensuring efficient operation of land routes within GCC countries.

Despite rising air freight costs due to fuel prices, Al Fahida assured that Qatar Post's services remained unaffected, focusing on operational flexibility and diverse logistical alternatives to meet customer needs.

Chief Information and Digital Officer Hamid Sadiq added that Qatar Post is adopting best practices and digital solutions to enhance operational processes and customer experience, employing robots for sorting to streamline operations and improve delivery services.

Sadiq revealed upcoming projects like live parcel tracking via the Qatar Post app, expected by Q4 2026, and a smart mailbox for secure home deliveries, set to launch next year. He affirmed the company's use of modern technology to handle increasing shipment volumes, with AI integration in progress to enhance operations.

In conclusion, Sadiq highlighted the sector's challenges, including information security and business continuity, stating that Qatar Post employs a proactive approach with advance planning and coordination with stakeholders to manage these issues effectively.
